For the past year, we have been hosting a worship evening in our home. It has been a wonderful, varied experience and each meeting has been vastly different. Yet at the same time, an incredible blessing for each person who has attended.
We have recently been enjoying a meal together, before the worship which is working really well as it gives us all a chance to connect and unwind from our day while we satisfy our tummies. My great desire is to make these evenings as easy to attend as possible. I know that everyone has a busy life and is constantly juggling balls so the idea is that the evening be a kind of escape from the ratrace into a place of rest – ensconced in God’s presence.
And there is absolutely no pressure to attend. We usually set the date for the first Wednesday of the month and a Whatsapp invite will go out about two weeks before that. The new rule is that there is no need to respond. Come if you can, don’t feel bad if you can’t. Sometimes we will have a worship leader singing with his guitar, sometimes it is just me me on the jembe with a playlist backing us up and other times we may just soak with some quiet tracks playing in the background – but whatever the format, we are always blessed and always a blessing to the Lord.
Following our last meeting, I had the very rare privilege of enjoying a ‘quiet time’ the next morning and i was just checking in with God to make sure that these evening are still a thing from Him and not just my own need to do something – even though I love it! This was how the conversation went …
... in my words
‘Thank you for last night. Even though there were only three of us. Thank you that you met with us. That you heard our prayers and drew us closer to yourself once again.’
… His words in my heart
‘My child … it’s not about the numbers. It’s about the hearts that walk through the door looking for refreshing or hope or healing. Those hearts that leave, filled up with my love. It isn’t even really about the music although this is a good vehicle, but it’s more about my presence. Those quiet places in the heart that come to rest in my presence. The eyes that look up to me. The hearts that come to realign themselves with my will and my way. All these things are good and all these things come to pass when two or more are gathered in my name. Be blessed each one of you for you have done the best thing.’
I know that each time we meet, those that are able to make it are those that God truly wants to talk to. Thank you for being faithful and joining me on this journey. I look forward to many ‘amazing’ evenings ahead
