How we live our lives, how we interact with others and how we show Gods love to our circle of influence, is all part of the legacy that we leave behind when we leave this life.
A legacy is something that remains after we leave this world – something that speaks of our lives.
There is an expression that goes ‘The good die young’, but I think that the expression should be “The good die too soon because there is always a need for more good.” And the good always leave a tremendous gap when they depart which makes their departure always seem too soon!
And then sometimes is just is too young.
A friend attended a memorial service recently and she could not speak more highly of the man who had ‘died too young.’ A good man, a family man, a surgeon, a man of great influence, who died in a most tragic and accidental way. As a surgeon, he made it his common practice to take a video of all his little patients, just after they are put under general anesthesia, and he would send this video to the very anxious parents, along with a prayer, asking God to protect their little one and guide his hands as he performed the operation. What a wonderful gift of comfort for the parents. What a wonderful example of Jesus love and compassion.
Focused on the Goal
12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
15-16 So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.
Philippians 3:12-16
Let us each ask the Lord to show us how we can make a difference in the lives of the people that we encounter every day, whether its through work or studies or sport or recreation.
Let us make sharing Gods love a natural extension of how we live our lives.
