In the beginning, when there was absolutely nothing – there was GOD.  Not just any god but the God of all gods.

He existed when there was nothing.  And out of that nothing, He created something more spectacular than anything that we could ever dream or imagine.  Because He created it from the abundance of love in His heart.

He created the whole universe, and this planet earth.

Perfect earth, perfectly designed, perfectly made.

He created it to hang in perfect balance and at just the perfect tilt.

He created the earths orbit around the sun, which gives us day and night and seasons of hot and cold.

He created the moon to light our nights and the sun to warm our days.

And He created the most breath-taking array of trees and flowers, birds and animals. And such an abundance of sea creatures that some have not yet even been discovered.

The complexity and ingenuity of a single flower is enough to amaze our earthly minds and yet He created it with the breath of a single spoken word.

He created this beautiful world for us.  For our pleasure.

And He created us for His pleasure.  Because He wanted someone to love.

He has so much love to give.

A love that would be so wasted if He had no-one to lavish it on.

And so, He created you and me!

You have been fearfully and wonderfully made. He loved you from the very moment that you were conceived.

And all He wants is for you to know that love.  To know Him and to love Him back.

The book of John is my favourite in the whole bible, because it was written by someone who had a real love relationship with Jesus.  John is described as ‘the disciple that Jesus loved”.  Of course, Jesus loved all the disciples, but he had a special intimacy with John.

The book of John reveals to us so much about the relational side of Jesus.

This is how the book of John begins – taken from the Amplified Bible for better understanding.

John 1 Amplified Bible (AMP)

The Deity of Jesus Christ

In the beginning [before all time] was the Word ([a]Christ), and the Word was with God, and [b]the Word was God Himself. He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines on in the [c]darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].

God is love

God is light

God is life

God sent His son, Jesus, to this very earth that He created, to redeem us and call us into a relationship with Himself, our father who is in heaven.

Imagine a father calling out to their child and the child just ignores him.  Imagine he calls day on day, month on month and year and year, but the child just keeps on ignoring him.

Imagine that same father lavishes the child with gifts and goodness and love but the child refuses to acknowledge them.  He receives the gifts but does not acknowledge them as gifts or refuses to acknowledge that they are from their father.

Imagine that child also refuses to feel any of love that the father pours out on him, because he wants to be independent and does not want to accept any help or kindness or love from his father.

Imagine you were that father.  Imagine how your heart would break.

That is exactly how it is for God – our father in heaven.

He has so much love for us – for every single person on this earth. And yet, so few choose to receive this love, to bask in this love and to love out of this love.

And Gods heart breaks.  He weeps over every single person who chooses not to know Him.  Every person who chooses to believe in another god or chooses to believe in just themselves or chooses to believe in nothing at all.

But He never gives up on them.

His love never ends.  God sent Jesus to be the light to all people, for all time, till the end of time.

This light shines in the darkness and the darkness will never overpower it.

We may be living in dark days and we may still see much darker days to come.

But Jesus is the light.  He will always be the light – until this planet earth is no more.

And then He will be the light in heaven (wherever that will be)

Don’t go on ignoring God for one more moment or one more day.

Turn your heart to Him and let Him show you how much He loves you.  Let Him show you how precious you are to Him.

Let yourself know Him – the creator of your being and the lover of your soul.

It will be like coming home.
