Hebrews 2 vs 5 – 8
And furthermore, it is not angels who will control the future world we are talking about. For in one place the Scriptures say,
“What are mere mortals that you should think about them,
or a son of man that you should care for him?
Yet you made them only a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor
You gave them authority over all things.”
Now when it says “all things,” it means nothing is left out. But we have not yet seen all things put under their authority.
Making it real …
Who is humankind that they consume your thoughts, People born from the bloodline of Christ, that you are so concerned about us. You created us of flesh and blood, maybe beneath the angels, but you placed on our heads a crown, showing your admiration and pride, and placed us in a position of authority of everything on the earth.
By placing us in this position of authority means that God has left nothing out. Everything is everything. Yet at this point in time, we do not see us caring for ‘everything’.
In my own words ….
Man has ruled the world right from when God put him in charge, but he hasn’t done a great job. If we consider all the wars, injustice, inequality, oppression and poverty, man has actually done a terrible job. And this comes from that deep seated nature of man. That nature of competitiveness, greed, dominance and lust.
This is so far from Gods ideal for us. His ideal, is for us to love one another. So, what is love in Gods terms?
We all know the familiar scripture: ‘Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.’
If we could each adopt these principals into our lives, the world would instantly be a better place.
The incredible and encouraging thing is that change does not necessarily come from the top of society. From governments or leaders or big corporations. In most cases all around the world, change or action has been driven by the local people – man or woman at the very bottom of the ladder – who are in touch with the real issues. People who become passionate about things like climate, species loss, inequity, sustainability crises, food, health, poverty and crime. These ordinary people at grass roots are the ones that make the difference.
So do you see what this means. It means that each one of us can make a difference. We can make a difference in the life of the beggar under the bridge or the neighbor who has just been abandoned by their spouse. Or in a drive against crime. It all just starts with LOVE.
Let our love make the world a better place.
